Job description
Qualifications:
- Diploma/Degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies from a recognized College or University with a focus or specialization in Therapeutic Recreation
- Minimum three years related experience in a Long-Term Care Home with demonstrated knowledge and application of the principles of recreation
- Current First Aid, CPR and Smart Serve Certificates
- Experience with Restorative Care, relevant long term care and occupational health and safety legislation
Skills:
- Previous experience with RAI/MDS
- Experience in the principles, methods and procedures for the development and execution of activity programs
- Knowledge and experience in dealing with community members
- Multilingual fluency is an asset
- Cooperative team player in a busy multi task environment
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Understanding and empathy for the needs of seniors
Areas of Responsibility:
- Identifying and assessing residents’ needs to develop fulfilling activities
- Designing and implementing therapeutic based programs for residents with varied needs
- Coordinating the volunteer and pastoral care programs
- Facilitating the Residents’ Council
- Coordinating the monthly newsletter
- Recruiting, hiring, orientating and evaluating new staff and volunteers
- Ensuring safety standards are met
- Maintaining and managing an efficient department including reporting and internal control
- Maintaining excellent documentation systems
- Developing and managing the department’s operating budget
- Contributing to a home environment for residents that ensures the values of Primacare Living Solutions are maintained and upheld.
