Qualifications:

• Diploma/Degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies from a recognized College or University with a focus or specialization in Therapeutic Recreation
• Minimum three years related experience in a Long-Term Care Home with demonstrated knowledge and application of the principles of recreation
• Current First Aid, CPR and Smart Serve Certificates
• Experience with Restorative Care, relevant long term care and occupational health and safety legislation

Skills:

• Previous experience with RAI/MDS
• Experience in the principles, methods and procedures for the development and execution of activity programs 
• Knowledge and experience in dealing with community members
• Multilingual fluency is an asset
• Cooperative team player in a busy multi task environment
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Understanding and empathy for the needs of seniors

Areas of Responsibility:

• Identifying and assessing residents’ needs to develop fulfilling activities
• Designing and implementing therapeutic based programs for residents with varied needs
• Coordinating the volunteer and pastoral care programs
• Facilitating the Residents’ Council
• Coordinating the monthly newsletter
• Recruiting, hiring, orientating and evaluating new staff and volunteers
• Ensuring safety standards are met
• Maintaining and managing an efficient department including reporting and internal control
• Maintaining excellent documentation systems
• Developing and managing the department’s operating budget
• Contributing to a home environment for residents that ensures the values of Primacare Living Solutions are maintained and upheld.
