Job description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group programs, that promote the physical, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs of residents and as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Prepare activity area(s) as necessary and transport residents to and from place of programs. Monitor the behaviour and condition of residents’ during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and clinical staff as appropriate.
- Participate in development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Supervisor.
- Maintain program and resident records according to the department’s policy. Communicate residents’ participation, concerns and suggestions appropriately.
- Work effectively and cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team to meet our residents’ needs.
- Demonstrate excellent attendance and flexibility in scheduling.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, activation coordinator/gerontology from a community college or university or enrolled in one of the mentioned studies. If enrolled, the program must be completed within 3 years of hire-date.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal communication and documentation skills (Activity Pro, Point Click Care).
- Knowledge and experience in planning, implementing and evaluating individual and group programs for the diverse needs of our residents
- Knowledge and experience in care planning and resident assessments.
- Ability to work independently and the ability to manage time effectively.
- Ability to plan, implement, evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
- Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population and persons with dementia.
