BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have completed at least the 12th grade of high school. At least five years’ experience is required and some background in the electrical, HVAC and plumbing trades would be considered an advantage. Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions in the English language. Able and willing to perform physical duties inside and outside the residence when necessary. Must be able to move heavy objects and have the ability to co-operate with other employees and department heads.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively participates in, and contributes to, the residence’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.
- Maintains the building in good repair and keeps free of hazards such as those caused by electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling systems.
- Performs regular monthly maintenance checks of all equipment and supplies within the residence.
- Monitors environmental fire safety conditions, equipment and alarm systems. Keeps the environmental services manager informed.
- Follows established safety rules and policies and procedures of the maintenance department.
- Performs routine maintenance, repair and cleaning work. Checks log book on a regular basis throughout the day and documents all work completed.
- Maintains the exterior grounds. Is on call for emergencies. Will paint and perform carpentry and repair work. May perform duties of washing windows and screens outside of building. Maintains the residence in a safe and clean environment. Keeps work areas and storage rooms neat and orderly.
- Follows established safety rules and policies of the maintenance department.
- Changes light bulbs, hangs pictures, performs plumbing and electrical work.
- Cleans and inspects garbage rooms.
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
- Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
- Completes all required annual mandatory training/education.
- Performs other related duties as delegated by the environmental services manager or member of the departmental management team.
