Life Enrichment Assistant, Job offer in Toronto, Ontario

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum grade 12 education. Must possess a diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of life enrichment, health care and/or gerontology. Experience in facilitating a variety of programs in a seniors environment is essential. Must be computer literate. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to converse both orally and written in English is essential. CanFitPro and/or Steps certification is considered an asset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates actively in and contributes to the VQI program.
  • Designs, implements and evaluates life enrichment programs for the residents.
  • Promotes resident awareness and participation in leisure and life enrichment programs.
  • Maintains records for the department including, assessments, evaluation of planned programs and attendance/participation records.
  • Assists in planning, organizing and developing special events.
  • Requisitions supplies and materials as needed for programs under the direction of the life enrichment manager.
  • Works with family members, volunteer and community groups to implement activities and programs that enrich the daily lives of the residents.
  • Assists the Life Enrichment Manager in reviewing and maintaining a department policy and procedure manual.
  • Participates in monthly audits for the life enrichment department to identify opportunities for improvement and to ensure resident satisfaction.
  • Participates in team conferences as required.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Complies with all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all requires annual mandatory training/education.
  • Purchases departmental supplies within life enrichment budget.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
